Agulhas was asked by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, working together with UNHCR and WFP, to undertake an “Analysis on financial inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan”. Agulhas was tasked with documenting progress made to date, identify the barriers to further expansion of financial services for refugees, analyse the potential expansion of agents’ and merchants’ networks and create an agenda for policy action to promote further progress in future.
This Knowledge Note summarises and synthesises secondary sources and combines this with relevant elements from our primary research to provide a succinct overview of the history and current state of financial inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers in Jordan (2022), including successes, barriers and knowledge gaps.
