In this review, the ICAI/Agulhas team looked at DFID’s progress in promoting economic transformation and job creation, focusing on Africa. This was a learning review to identify what works and how to develop a credible approach.
Overall, DFID’s focus on economic transformation was an appropriate response to the development challenges facing Africa and a welcome increase in the ambition of its economic development work. The new strategy makes positive commitments to politically smart approaches and economic inclusion. However, to put these into practice, DFID will need a stronger focus on the policy and institutional dimensions of economic transformation and a more systematic approach to economic inclusion
The review will be discussed at the International Development Committee (IDC) in Parliament.
