Assessing DFID’s Results in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

Agulhas supported ICAI in assessing DFID’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene portfolio and in identifying if the claim that DFID had exceeded its target of reaching 60 million people between 2011 and 2015 was credible. Richard Gledhill led the review at ICAI while Nigel Thornton led the team at Agulhas. The review concluded that DFID’s claim of reaching 62.9 million people was based on sound evidence but also that sustainability was an area of particular concern, with not enough being done to ensure that improved WASH access was becoming a permanent part of people’s lives.

Country case studies: Mozambique and Zimbabwe

The review was discussed at the International Development Committee (IDC) in June 2016. Watch the session
