Katerina (Kate) Cerna

Technical Manager

Kate is a Technical Manager at Agulhas, providing insights and assistance on several projects as part of the Agulhas Climate Hub. As a part of the team for six years, she has delivered support across a range of projects including the ‘Limits to Growth’ work for the Institute of Actuaries, the IPCC Special Report on Extreme Events (SREX), summaries for CDKN and work for ICAI and the African Development Bank.

Kate has an Honours degree in Environmental Management from Birkbeck College (University of London). She is particularly interested in climate change, sustainability, and international and regional environmental policy.

Kate has been involved in a number of NGO projects whilst travelling through South East Asia, including volunteering with Green Bamboo Warm Shelter, working with homeless boys in Vietnam and with friends-international.org in Cambodia.


Key work skills

Kate has worked across a range of projects focusing on environmental management, adaptation policy and practice, climate finance and governance, and complex evaluation of programming and portfolios.  She has delivered support across range of clients including ICAI reviews of the UK’s International Climate Finance, UK investments in Forestry and Biodiversity and the degree to which UK ODA is aligned with the Paris Agreement.

Katerina has worked on a number of important climate projects, including a research paper developing a case study of Scotland’s transition towards low-carbon future with use of renewable technology, a multi-year evaluation of ECF UK, with a Story of Change on the seven steps to Net Zero and the clean air campaign, and MELU support together with an evaluation of ICAT, including five country case studies presented by ICAT at COP25 in Madrid.
